1. If you have a virus / anti-spyware program on your computer do a scan right away!
2. If you don’t have it, get the "free" CCleaner, close
   all browsers and programs. Install CCleaner, then run it. Make sure Ccleaner is displaying its "windows" tab, then click near bottom that says "run cleaner." When done cleaning close it.
3. We are now going to get the infamous and "free" HijackThis and save it to your desktop. Install HijackThis. Do a system scan and follow the rest of the onscreen instructions I show you including how to find out if certain files are suspicious in HijackThis.
4. Next up we are going to get the "free" program "Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware" and save it to desktop. Install it and do a quick scan. Follow the rest of my onscreen instructions using this program.
5. Restart your computer and browse with ease!

What Is The Vundo Trojan / Virus aka Trojan.Vundo?

Vundo, or the Vundo Trojan (also known as Virtumonde or Virtumondo and sometimes referred to as MS Juan & Trojan.Vundo) is a Trojan horse that is known to cause popups and advertising for rogue antispyware programs, and sporadically other misbehavior including performance degradation and denial of service with some websites including Google.

The most obvious sign of infection are the pop ups. Vundo will cause the infected web browser to pop up advertisements; many of which claim a need for software to fix system "deterioration". The user’s desktop background is changed to the image of an installation window saying there is adware on the computer. The screensaver is also changed to the Blue Screen. When the user tries to change the background and screensaver back to their original by going to the Display Properties, the background and screensaver tabs are missing because their "Hide" values in the Registry were changed to 1. Both the background and screensaver are in the System32 folder, however the screensaver cannot be deleted. Windows automatic updates may also be disabled and it is not possible to turn them back on

Infected DLLs (with randomized names such as "__c00369AB.dat") will be present in the Windows/System32 folder and references to the DLLs will be found in the user’s start up (viewable in MSConfig), registry, and as browser add ons in Internet Explorer.

Depending on the version of the virus the following symptoms may or may not be present:

Vundo may attempt to prevent the user from removing it or otherwise impede its operation, such as by disabling the task manager or Windows registry editor. Some firewalls or antivirus softwares may also be disabled by the virus leaving the system even more vulnerable. Another symptom of Vundo may be the desktop icons will disappear and so will the taskbar and reappear after a short period. This becomes very frustrating if you are trying to run programs or get access to your files as the process gets automatically aborted.

Web access may also be negatively affected. Vundo may cause many websites to be unaccessible; these websites may just hang. The hard drive may start to be constantly accessed by the winlogon process, thus periodic freezes may be experienced.

Symptoms may also include the disabling of Windows Automatic Updates or other web-based services.

Well I had a similar experience. I was on one of my new workstations when I noticed my desktop tab missing from display properties and I could no longer change the wallpaper.

Opening my desktop properties by right clicking the desktop I noticed the desktop tab is missing from the display properties so I did a bit of research and trial and error and came to a solution that should help thousands of people out. To restore your desktop display settings and restore the desktop tabs missing just follow along with my instructions below.

2. Use your search tool to find “Restore All Display Tabs”
3. Download the file from that link “restorealldisplaytabs.reg” and save to desktop.
4. Run “restorealldisplaytabs.reg” and select yes to add the information to registry.
5. Go back to your desktop display properties and you can see your tabs again, but wait its not over yet!
6. Set your display settings back to whatever it was before and click OK.
7. Go to “start> run” type in “msconfig” and press enter.
8. Go to the “startup tab.” Remove any startup item that has text under “startup item” that looks like gibberish, similar to the wallpaper name text that was taking over your desktop. Example: “phclgqj0e12v.” Uncheck the square next to the name to disable it, then click OK.
9. You will get a message that pops up about restarting, make sure you close any programs & save all work then click on “restart.”
10. When you restart a message may popup about the settings you chose, select “don’t show this message again.”

Regularly make sure your operating system and software applications have all critical updates and security fixes.

Whats a PDF?:
Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 for document exchange. PDF is used for representing two-dimensional documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system.

PDF viewing software is generally free with Adobe Reader as well as Foxit which is the most popular.

There are many software options for creating PDFs, including the PDF printing capabilities built in to Mac OS X and some versions of Linux, the multi-platform OpenOffice.org, Microsoft Office 2007 (via a Microsoft-produced add-on), Wordperfect since version 9, numerous PDF print drivers for Microsoft Windows, the pdfTeX typesetting system, the DocBook PDF tools, applications devloped around Ghostscript and Adobe Acrobat itself.

There is also specialized software for editing PDF files, though the choices are much more limited and often expensive. Adobe Acrobat Professional is one example of software that allows the user to annotate (highlight, add notes to) already created PDF files. A free one is PDFedit. As of version 0.46, Inkscape also allows PDF editing through an intermediate translation step involving poppler.

Several applications embracing the PDF standard are now available as an online service including Scribd for viewing and storing, Pdfvue for online editing, and Zamzar for PDF Conversion.

What Is A Digital Camera?
A digital camera (or digicam for short) is a camera that takes video or still photographs, or both, digitally by recording images on a light-sensitive sensor.

Compact cameras are designed to be small and portable; the smallest are described as subcompacts or “ultra-compacts”. Compact cameras are usually designed to be easy to use, sacrificing advanced features and picture quality for compactness and simplicity; images can usually only be stored using Lossy compression (JPEG). Most have a built-in flash usually of low power, sufficient for nearby subjects. Live preview is almost always used to frame the photo. They may have limited motion picture capability. Compacts often have macro capability, but if they have zoom capability the range is usually less than for bridge and DSLR cameras. They have a greater depth of field, allowing objects within a large range of distances from the camera to be in sharp focus. They are particularly suitable for casual and “snapshot” use.

Many compact digital still cameras can record sound and moving video as well as still photograph.

Mega Pixel And Resolution: The resolution of a digital camera is often limited by the camera sensor (typically a CCD or CMOS sensor chip) that turns light into discrete signals, replacing the job of film in traditional photography. The sensor is made up of millions of “buckets” that essentially count the number of photons that strike the sensor. This means that the brighter the image at that point the larger of a value that is read for that pixel. Depending on the physical structure of the sensor a color filter array may be used which requires a demosaicing/interpolation algorithm. The number of resulting pixels in the image determines its “pixel count”. For example, a 640×480 image would have 307,200 pixels, or approximately 307 kilopixels; a 3872×2592 image would have 10,036,224 pixels, or approximately 10 megapixels.

The pixel count alone is commonly presumed to indicate the resolution of a camera, but this is a misconception. There are several other factors that impact a sensor’s resolution. Some of these factors include sensor size, lens quality, and the organization of the pixels (for example, a monochrome camera without a Bayer filter mosaic has a higher resolution than a typical color camera). Types Of Digital Cameras?

Point-And-Shoot Models
Point-and-shoot cameras are the most inexpensive type of digital camera. These basic cameras can do anything that a simple film camera can do. Most will have 2 to 3.2MP resolution; a built-in flash; some sort of removable storage; and either a fixed focal length, nonzooming lens (in the ultracompact models) or a modest 3:1 to 5:1 zoom that provides a little magnification. Expect automatic exposure and no manual controls.

Intermediate Models
Intermediate digital cameras are the most widely used. As such, they have the best compromise of features to suit most consumer needs. Look for 3.2 to 5MP resolution; a 3:1 to 4:1 zoom lens; either CompactFlash or Secure Digital (SD) storage; and at least a few special options, such as different exposure modes, close-up focusing, or manual controls.

Advanced Consumer Models
If you’re willing to spend a few hundred dollars more than most point-and-shoot or intermediate models, you might be interested in digital cameras with some special features, extra resolution, or a longer zoom lens. These are 4 to 6MP models with 4:1 to 10:1 zooms (or better) and plenty of add-on accessories, such as wide-angle and telephoto attachments, filters, external flash units, and more. You can also find lots of optional exposure modes and customizable settings. 3. Go to the “Global Hot Keys” where we will set our 2 most important buttons. Pause and Play.
4. Configuring Pause: Click on the Pause option, and click on “Assign Key.” In the field in front of “Assign” press “CTRL+ALT+[" or the keys of your choice. Now click assign.
5. Configuring Play: Click on the Play option, and click on "Assign Key." In the field in front of "Assign" press "CTRL+ALT+]” or the keys of your choice. Now click assign.
6. Now click close or you can setup the other keys if you would like.

Now the reason I chose those keys is because at your work at home / office job, while your typing away there is no way you have those keys setto anything else in most cases.

Well I USED to have to deal with that problem but not anymore since I went and did due diligence for a solution! Today I’m happy to share this solution to increase your productivity!

The program is called “WorkPause” and its created by “Praven3 Software“. Unfortunately this wonderful tool isn’t free but the shareware time limit was fine enough for me.

WorkPause is a countdown timer application. It increases your productivity by alerting you when to do certain tasks without you worrying about keeping track of it. The key benefit this application has over others is that it’s a lightweight, non-resource hog and it has a sound you can set to alert you when time is almost up. WorkPause also freezes your screen so that have no choice but to notice its time to do your task. If you want a less intrusive way of being alerted it has a balloon tip that appears on your task bar.

Interesting productive ways I have used this program is while cooking I set the timer, so while I’m busy working I just relax and not worry about my masterpiece burning, LOL.

I also use it on another computer in my network to alert me when something on my other computer should be done such as a render of a video file. The most common use though was for downloading files from timed websites, especially with Rapidshare. With Rapidshare, as if the timer wasn’t enough we are greeted with a Mensa style CAPHTCHA! But lets stay on topic

With WorkPause catching the time to download from Rapidshare without it timing out has been a breeze & relief! I no longer use WorkPause for Rapidshare because I buy yearly accounts now

What Is CAPTCHA?

A CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is a challenge-response system test designed to differentiate humans from automated programs. A CAPTCHA differentiates between human and bot by setting some task that is easy for most humans to perform but is more difficult and time-consuming for current bots to complete.

CAPTCHAs are often used to stop bots and other automated programs from using blogs to affect search engine rankings, signing up for e-mail accounts to send out spam or take part in on-line polls.

Frequently, a CAPTCHA features an image file of slightly distorted alphanumeric characters. A human can usually read the characters in the image without too much difficulty. A bot program is able to recognize that the content contains an image , but it has no idea what the image is. To accommodate the visually-impaired, some CAPTCHAs use audio files. In such a system, the human listens to a series of letters or short words and types what he hears to prove he is not a bot.

What you see above is an example of a CAPTCHA program called E-Z Gimpy. Although it is one of the most commonly used CAPTCHAs, it is also the easiest to crack by using a dictionary attack. The full edition of GIMPY is considered to be more secure. It randomly selects seven words from a dictionary and then presents them, somewhat distorted, in an image. The user is asked to type three of the words that appear in the image.

Another test, “Pix,” presents the user with six images of a single subject, such as babies or horses, and asks them to define the subject of the pictures. Math CAPTCHAs are very popular on blog software. A Math CAPTCHA uses numbers instead of letters and asks the human to solve a simple mathematical calculation (4 +3 =) and record the answer.

A bonus with this method is if you want to split podcasts to listen to in your car! You can split the tracks into 79 minute increments and burn the CD’s onto some high speed CD-RW’s if your burner supports them This way you have podcasts on the go and don’t waste CD’s :).

The program to help us with the podcast splitting is mp3DirectCut. Its made by Martin Pesch and its small and freeware! The interface can be daunting but don’t worry, my video tutorial will guide you through!

1. Download and Install mp3DirectCut.
2. Run mp3DirectCut and choose your language.
3. Take your podcast you want to split and drag it into mp3DirectCut.
4. In the menu select Special>Auto Cue> Now select the amount of minutes for each split podcast, for example if you want 5 minutes each split mp3, then input: 5:00; Now select OK. Now you should see separated rectangular lines in the graph that represents your split podcast into 5 minute increments.
5. Now select File>Save Split> Now you can type in how you want your files to be named, keep in mind the symbols that show things such as track numbers for the podcasts. For example I input: %N-trk, the %N is the symbol for track number.%N -Trk will name and number the split podcasts as 01-trk.mp3, 02-trk.mp3, and so forth in succession until all the split mp3s are created.
6. Now you can keep the folder to save to as is, or you can create a folder to save the split podcasts into. Then select OK.
7. What I do is create a folder with the podcast name, then put all the split podcasts in that folder and then drag to my MP3 player.

What Is A Podcast?

A podcast is a series of audio or video digital-media files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds such as RSS, to portable media players and personal computers.
