How do I create a RAR file? This is a common question I get often and in this video tutorial I will show you how!
What Is A RAR File?
RAR is a file format for file compression, similar to ZIP files. RAR stands for Roshal Archive which is named after its creator: Eugene Roshal.
Whats File Compression?
File compression is a way of making one or more files into a single package that is usually way smaller than the original files.
An example is that you wanted to e-mail a folder full of files to your friend. Instead of attaching the whole folder and all its files to your message as an attachment, you could compress the folder into one archive file and send it away to your friend.
You’ll send the e-mail faster due to smaller file size and your friend will download it quicker.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Right click on the folder or file you wish to archive & click add to archive.
- You can keep the current archive name or change it to what you see fit.
- Choose best compression.
- Click OK & Your file will now be compressed into a rar archive.
- Check your archive to make sure that all the files are in there.
Now your files are archived!

If you only need to open RAR files and not create them, I would recommend BitZipper over WinRAR. It has a lot of nice extras like a batch tool that will let you work with many RAR files at once.
